Welcome friends, I'm Buffy, and this is Russell.

Before I created Simply B Vermont, I was happy being a stay at home Mom, sewing dresses for my girls, making toys for our cats, dressing up our family dog and working an assortment of part-time jobs.

Then one day I answered an ad from a neighbor who needed a special coat for her dog that had lost all its hair. A few months later I was asked to make another coat for another dog with a similar issue.  Over the next year people continued to come to me to make toys and apparel for their fur-babies. Their feedback was encouraging.

I had been making toys and clothing for my dogs and cats since my childhood spent in rural Alaska.  We didn’t live near stores, so we made the things that we needed. I remember sewing catnip toys by the light of a kerosene lantern, so that my cat would have something to play with.  I never thought of selling what I made to other people, it was just something I did to make my fur-family happy.

But then when people started telling their friends about what I had made for their dogs and cats I couldn’t ignore the facts.  People liked what I had made for them enough to recommend me to their friends. I was helping make dogs and cats happy!

I decided to set out to create the most fun and functional toys and apparel I could for the most loved fur-babies in Vermont.

It turns out the road was more difficult than I imagined.  I had to adapt sewing techniques (and create new ones) to meet the specific needs of animals.  I also had to design and create patterns to make my ideas a reality.

I talked to my sewing friends, researched catnip farms, talked with dog and cat owners, retailers, learned the “pet industry,” tested and retested everything. Making sure that everything I make is fun, functional and unique as your fur-babies is my ultimate goal.

Pictured here is Jasmine our first rescue dog.  She was four years old when she joined our family.  Jasmine ran a tight ship (if you have ever lived with a border collie you know what I mean).  She kept us safe by making sure we always followed the rules and played safely.

I dedicate this page and business to her memory, may we always follow the rules and play safely.
